                            Hidroelectricas de Atzala-Coyolapa, Puebla, Mexico

Puebla is threatened by mining and dams mostly in indigenous territories. Local residents fear this new hydroelectric "proyecto de muerte" in Sierra Negra may do further damage. There is extreme violence against activists.

Women activists in the forefront of resistance against Strongylos mine, South Mathiatis, Cyprus

Mathiatis is a small village in the foothills of the Troodos mountain in Cyprus. The project to reopen the Strongylos gold mine has been successfully opposed by the local people and activists.

                            Sentani Airport, Papua, Indonesia

Communal landowners from four villages whose land was taken for Sentani Airport disrupted airport operations on several occasions, blocking the runway and taxiway. This action helped secure compensation and recognition of their customary land rights.

                            Ekiti cargo Airport, Nigeria

The state government of Ekiti, in western Nigeria, sent in bulldozers to clear farmland for an airport. Affected farmers from five villages fought back, organizing a protest and securing a major court victory which halted the project.

                            Lombok Airport, Indonesia

Beginning in the mid-1990s peasant farmers were forcibly evicted to make way for Lombok Airport. In 2005 police fired into a crowd of protesters injuring 33 people. The airport commenced operations in 2011 but disputes over plots of land continue.

Land grabbing in Igbin Ojo, where a cargo airport is proposed, Nigeria

Villagers are resisting land-grabbing of a large area of farmland, 64,750 hectares, in Igbin Ojo, Ogun State, where a cargo airport is proposed. About 5,000 people from 20 villages could be affected. Farmers have been intimidated, their crops bulldozed.
